    I am a complete noob to this…

    I have connected and installed all appropriate software and have an external antenna.  The switch is on ‘ext’.  When I try to use cat, screen, or minicom, there is no response. None.  Just a cursor in the case of screen and a new blank window in the case of cat.  I have let it sit for a couple of hours at the longest and am baffled.  I am also by a window with nothing blocking the sky except the glass.

    Any help would be great. 🙂

    Hi

    You are not seeing any output when using minicom?

    Can you  show me the output of this command

    dmesg | grep tty

    And what happens if you kill GPSD using this;
    sudo killall gpsd
    and then try minicom again
    minicom -b 9600 -o -D /dev/serial0

    you should be able to just copy the text from the terminal window. select it and the Ctrl-C.

    what is the output after doing this;
    sudo killall gpsd
    and then try minicom again
    minicom -b 9600 -o -D /dev/serial0

    and when I do the ‘sudo killall’ it says it can’t do that, so I try and restart minicom and I get a blank box. Then I scrolled down a bit and it showed this.

    even if they are making contact? I wanted to make sure it was running properly before I made that sort of a commitment. lol

    I soldered it.  Now this is the message I am getting.  Is this correct?

    Ok.  Worst soldering job ever, but it’s a big soldering iron.

    yes.. i can see that the pins are not soldered completely. You need to try and get it properly soldered.

    I restarted the pi and double checked the solder points, its scrolling now like something out of the Matrix, but it looks just like the photos that have been provided.  I will continue to go down this path and let you know the result. 🙂
