I have a PI3 which works perfectly normally – and has the very latest Jessie.
I followed the instructions hereFor the Piscreen 1 (instructions for 2 do not work).
No joy at all – blank screen – until I did the modification for Jessie (obviously) – and though I see no text on powerup – X-windows does indeed come up PERFECTLY…. and I can move the mouse – all is well.. that is for about 10 seconds at which point the screen blanks – and never comes back on.
HOWEVER the Pi is working.. I can VNC into it, reboot etc, scp, no problem.
What is causing the PiScreen to blank after only a few seconds of perfect operation?

So if it is blanking after a number of seconds, there may be something configured incorrectly with the screensaver or power saving settings within X Windows.
Regarding the terminal on power up, have you followed the instructions on this page?
Once you get the console enabled on PiScreen, try and disable X windows for auto loading to see if you get the same problem. You can use raspi-config to stop X windows from loading after boot.
